Augusta, MI -- Coming off the first victory in school history, the Laker Golf team was back in action a couple days later in the Shootout at Stonehedge hosted by Lawrence Tech University. The Lakers competed Friday, April 14th and Saturday, April 15th against a very strong field at the famous Stonehedge North and South courses at Gull Lake Resort. The Lakers finished in 7th out of 14 teams comprising a field of NAIA, NCAA Division III and JUCO teams. Northwestern Ohio won the team event besting Madonna University by 9 shots.
The Lakers found splitting courses seemed to be a little more challenging shooting 311 the first day on the North course and 319 on the South course. Junior Matthew Spahr (76, 78) paced the Lakers with a tied for 23rd finish while sophomore Kevin Cunningham (77, 80) finished in a tie for 36th place.
Coach Peter Pougnet took a lot of positives from the week. He said, "In a week where we won for the first time in school history and played 6 rounds in 7 days, I couldn't be happier with the direction of this team. There are a lot of positives to take from this week and we will now build on those. We are in postseason mode now gearing up for our conference tournament. We will have a very positive and focused week of practice and get ready to play TPC Deere Run again. We are excited to play with the rest of our CCAC conference."
The Lakers are back in action Monday, April 24th and Tuesday, April 25th.
