CHICAGO - Brooke Lee, Maddy Cysewski and Abby Petroelje posted double-digit kill efforts as the Roosevelt volleyball team fought tooth-and-nail against rival Robert Morris Illinois inside the Goodman Center on Thursday night, and the spirited, prolonged five-set nailbiter eventually went the way of the visiting Eagles by a final of 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 18-16.

Lee posted a team-high 18 kills, Cysewski added 15 while hitting at a .433 clip, and Petroelje turned in 11 kills for the Lakers (1-7, 0-2 CCAC).

Rookie Mallory Nickelson handed out 40 assists while posting 14 digs for a double-double. Paula Gross had 18 digs to lead all players, and Chelsey Crippen had five total blocks.

Kristin Acciavatti led all attackers with 19 kills for the Eagles (5-4, 1-0 CCAC).

The two teams traded sets as RMU took the first and third frames while Roosevelt captured sets two and four in a very even affair.

That meant a fifth and deciding set, and even that required extra time as the Lakers stormed back from four points down with RMU at match point. Roosevelt tallied four consecutive points to square the set at 14, and the two teams kept going at it until the Eagles strung together a kill and a service ace to take the contest despite a resilient Roosevelt effort.

The Lakers have a week to regroup and then face Indiana Northwest in Gary, Ind. on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6pm in a rematch of last week's contest between the two sides at the Goodman Center.
