BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Roosevelt cross country teams made their second appearance at the Midwest Classic, hosted by Olivet Nazarene University at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course on Friday, right after the Tiger Intercollegiate Tournament that the Roosevelt men's golf team competed in earlier in the day. 

The men ran their first 8K of the 2017 season, with sophomore Kwesi Ayekumi leading the Lakers once again on the course for the second straight meet. He finished 46th overall and 30th in the NAIA division with a time of 30:38, besting Logan McBee from Danville Area CC.

Freshman Nicholas Martone and Zachary Thornton ran their first collegiate 8K races. Martone finished with a time of 33:02.75, good for 53rd overall and 34th on the NAIA front. Thornton finished his first 8K adventure with a time of 33:24.23, good for 55th overall and 35th in the NAIA division, besting Chriss McGee from Greenville College.

Junior Dorian Meighan ran his first 8K for the Lakers, finishing with a time of 37:01.67, good for 62nd overall and 39th among NAIA competitors.

Sophomore Edwin Renteria finished with a time of 38:49.58, good for 65th overall and 41st in NAIA rankings

Freshman Ernest Assan rounded out the Lakers' performance in the 8K competition with a time of 39:07.32, good for 67th overall and 42nd in the NAIA.

The Lakers finished fifth as a team. Olivet Nazarene University won their home invitational with Saint Xavier University taking runner-up honors.

The Lakers will head to the Gil Dodds Invitational hosted by Wheaton College on September 16th. They will be back at Aspen Ridge Golf Course for the Midwest Intercollegiate Championships on September 29th.
