Alex Agafonov helped the Roosevelt men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish on Saturday morning at the 2011 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene University at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.
Saturday marked Roosevelt's first-ever conference postseason appearance and the Lakers made a strong showing in their season finale. Roosevelt's 257 points put it firmly in eighth place in the 12-team field. The Lakers finished ahead of Purdue Calumet (264), Cardinal Stritch (280), Calumet-St. Joseph (312) and Trinity International (no team score).
St. Francis (Ill.) claimed the league title with 30 points as all five of the Fighting Saints lead runners placed in the top 15.
Agafonov was the Lakers' top finisher, placing 25
th with a time of 26:55.2. Junior
Aaron King was the next Roosevelt runner to cross the line, taking 54
th in 28:33.58. Freshman
Andres Mahmud (83
