Chicago, Ill. - Roosevelt University Athletic Director Mike Cassidy announced that softball will be one of the 12 varsity sports sponsored as part of the revival of intercollegiate athletics at the university.

The softball program willopen its inaugural seasonin 2012-13. The Lakers will compete at the NAIA level as members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Roosevelt University is welcoming intercollegiate athletics back to campus for the first time since 1989, and for the first time sponsoring women's athletic programs. The Lakers will begin play in the fall of 2010 with men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's basketball and baseball.
