Chicago, Ill. - The Roosevelt University men's golf team, which makes its debut in the fall of 2012, welcomed the first student-athlete to its roster as head coach
Marty Scherr announced the signing of West Chicago Community High School product Kyle Martens.
Martens was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Wildcats golf team, captaining the squad in his final two prep campaigns. The three-time sectional qualifier owned a 74.5 18-hole average as a senior en route to earning All-DuPage Valley Conference and team MVP accolades. A well-rounded athlete, Martens is also the captain of the West Chicago lacrosse team, an honor he will hold for the third straight season when the Wildcats begin play this spring.
Martens' high school successes were not limited to just the playing field. He is a seven-time Academic All-Conference recipient and has been a high honor roll student since completing his first semester at West Chicago.
"I am very happy to commit, and I feel that nothing but great things are to come," said Martens. "I am glad that I can be a leader and a part of something new, and that is exactly what Roosevelt has to offer."
The Lakers will compete as members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) starting in 2011-12.
