Chicago, Ill. - Roosevelt University Head Volleyball Coach Kelly Fitzgerald added a potent outside threat to her roster for the 2012 season on Friday, announcing the signing of Crete-Monee High School product Maya Topps.
 
Topps, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, set the single-season record for kills as a junior for the Warriors with over 200 and finished her career finished her career as a two-time All-Southland Athletic Conference and two-time All-Area selection. Topps was a three-year varsity starter at Crete-Monee and captained the Warriors her last two seasons.
 
She played on the club volleyball circuit for Diamond Elite.
 
"Roosevelt is a great choice for me because it's a small school in a big school environment," said Topps. "I love the downtown area, so to play volleyball and go to school downtown has always been a dream for me."
 
Topps was recognized as a scholar-athlete at Crete-Monee for her dedication in the classroom.
 
The Roosevelt volleyball team will begin its second season of competition in August.
