Chicago, Ill. – The Roosevelt volleyball team concluded play on Saturday at the SXU/TCC Crossover Tournament with a split of its two matches. The Lakers fell to Ashford in its opening foray 27-25, 25-11, 25-18, at Saint Xavier's Shannon Center and then swept Spring Arbor, 25-17, 25-14, 25-18, to finish the two-day event at 2-2.

Roosevelt remains at .500 on the season with a 3-3 record heading into Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play which opens on Tuesday, Sept. 4 when the Lakers host Robert Morris at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, rookie Najoua Alioualla totaled a personal best 11 kills and seven digs to lead Roosevelt versus Ashford.  Arielle Nausieda led the Lakers on defense with 14 digs.

Roosevelt served for set point in the opening frame, only to watch as Ashford rallied for three straight points to take the game, 27-25, and eventually the match in straight sets.

Roosevelt rebounded to sweep Spring Arbor in convincing fashion. Sophomore Vanessa Owusu paced the Lakers with nine kills and three service aces. Freshman Katherine Daley added eight kills, while rookie Tori Schrementi added seven kills.
