Men's Soccer - Mon, Sep. 3, 2012

St. Louis, Mo. – The Roosevelt men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday as host Missouri Baptist tallied a pair of first-half goals in a 2-0 triumph over the Lakers at CBC High School.

The Spartans (1-4-0) struck first in the 31st minute when Dylan Penrod headed home a corner kick off the boots of Joe Whitacre. Seven minutes later Missouri Baptist found the back of the net, once again, as Jusef Zukanovic intercepted a Roosevelt (1-1-1) clearance attempt and beat keeper Jose Ortiz to put the Spartans ahead, 2-0.

The Lakers pushed to equalize the match in the second half, outshooting Missouri Baptist, 10-4, in the final 45 minutes. Spartans keeper Ethan Brunk was up to the challenge with five saves in the second stanza for his first clean sheet of the year.

Roosevelt will return to the pitch on Friday with a match at Huntington (Ind.).
