Hammond, Ind. – Led by a career-low tying round of 79 from freshman Kyle Martens, the Roosevelt men's golf team sits in fifth place after the first of two rounds at the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invitational at Lost Marsh Golf Club.

The Lakers posted a team score of 331, putting them three strokes behind Olivet Nazarene (328) for fourth place. Owens Community College leads the event after three sub-80 rounds led to a team score of 316. The event features seven Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference schools, with Roosevelt besting four of those schools in the opening round.

Martens was the only Roosevelt golfer to crack 80 on Monday. Freshman Trevor Berry carded an 81, and juniors Jeremy Scott and Aaron Wheeler scoring 84 and 87, respectively, for the Lakers four team scores.

Roosevelt returns to the links tomorrow to conclude tournament play.
