Chicago, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's volleyball team fell prey to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference North Division leader Saint Xavier on Thursday night at the UIC Physical Education Building, as the Cougars pounded out 40 kills in a three-set sweep of the Lakers, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21.

The loss dropped Roosevelt to 8-7 overall this season and 1-3 in the CCAC, while Saint Xavier improved its record to 11-2 and remained undefeated in league action at 4-0.

Sophomore Vanessa Owusu led the Lakers with eight kills and three blocks. Freshman Tori Schrementi added six kills and two blocks. Freshman Aleesha Cleaver stepped into the setter position and dished out a personal-best 19 assists. Freshman libero Arielle Nausieda racked up a team-high 14 digs, while also recording three service aces.

Kayla Mullaney led a potent Cougars attack with a match-high 16 kills. Kelly Knudsen totaled 11 kills behind a .526 attack percentage. Saint Xavier hit .407 with 14 kills in the opening set to take control of the match and then came from behind in the third set behind 15 kills on an efficient .324 attack percentage. The Cougars recorded double digit kills as a team in each set.

The Lakers will be back in action on Saturday with a CCAC match at Judson at 6:00 p.m.
