Bourbonnais, Ill. – The doubles team of Valerie Vasquez and Danielle Smith gave the Roosevelt women's tennis team its lone victory as the Lakers competed in the two-day USTA-ITA Central East Regional Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene University.

The ITA Regional is a qualifying event for the Small College National Championships, held in Mobile, Ala. in mid-October.  The winners of the regional earn an automatic berth in the national tournament.

Vasquez and Smith downed Michelle Biceste and Shannon Mudro of CCAC rival St. Francis (Ill.) in the consolation round by an 8-3 margin. That proved to be Roosevelt's lone win at the event.

The Lakers will be back in action on Sunday, returning to team competition by taking on Marian University at 1:00 p.m. at Diversey Tennis Center.
