South Bend, Ind. – Freshman Trevor Berry's 6-over 78 was the low round of the day for the Roosevelt men's golf team on Monday as the Lakers opened play in the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel College at Blackthorn Golf Club.

Roosevelt posted a team stroke total of 332 on day one of the two-day event, which put the Lakers in 13th place in the 15-team field. Roosevelt does not sit too far out of contetition for a top 10 finish, trailing Trinity Christian by five strokes (327) and St. Francis (Ind.) and St. Francis (Ill.) by six and seven strokes, respectively.

Berry's round put him in a tie for 19th place individually. Junior Jeremy Scott is one stroke behind Berry after firing an opening round 79 (+7). Freshman Evan Krohn (87/+15) and junior Aaron Wheeler (88/+16) carded Roosevelt's other two scoring rounds on the day.

The Lakers will return to the links on Tuesday morning to conclude tournament play.
