South Bend, Ind. – The Roosevelt men's golf team shaved 20 strokes off its first round stroke total, led by junior Jeremy Scott's 3-over 75, to finish the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel College in 11th place following Tuesday's action at Blackthorn Golf Club.
All four team scores came in at 80 or under as the Lakers carded a stroke total of 312. This was a 20 stroke improvement over Monday's round in which Roosevelt posted a stoke total of 332. The Lakers strong play pushed them up two spots in the final standings as head coach Marty Scherr's crew passed St. Francis (Ind.) and CCAC rival Trinity Christian to place 11th in the 15-team field.
Scott's 75 left him in a tied for 18th individually, finishing 10-over after the tournament's two rounds. Junior Aaron Wheeler put together a strong round, shooting a 6-over 78, while freshman Trevor Berry backed up his opening round 78 with a 7-over 79 on Tuesday. Freshman Evan Krohn carded Roosevelt's other scoring round with an 8-over 80.
The Lakers will return to the links on Oct. 7 when they begin play at the two-day Ashford Tournament.
