Chicago, Ill. – The Roosevelt men's soccer team surrendered three goals in the opening 16 minutes of its match versus IIT on Saturday night as the host Scarlet Hawks carried that momentum to a 6-1 victory over the Lakers at Stuart Field.

IIT (5-4-1, 2-0-1) broke through eight minutes into the contest with Jorge Salas Moreno finding the back of the net off a loose ball in front of the goal. Less than 90 seconds later the Scarlet Hawks made the score 2-0 with Liam Barrett tallying the first of his three goals on the night.

Trailing 3-0 after a goal by Barrett in the 16th minute, Roosevelt (1-6-3, 0-3-0) got back into the match with a 23rd-minute goal from freshman Diego Rivas. It was his first collegiate goal.

IIT answered with a goal prior to half to make the score 4-1 at intermission. The Scarlet Hawks then added two more goals in the second half for the final 6-1 margin.

The Lakers will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they square off with Robert Morris. The match will take place at Flames Field on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
