Chicago, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's tennis team notched its first win of the 2012 fall season on Saturday with a 7-2 triumph over Mount Mary College at Diversey Tennis Center.

Juniors Carina Balan, Valerie Vasquez and Shaina Nolley notched both singles and doubles victories to lead the Lakers (1-1). Balan and Nolley teamed at No. 2 doubles and cruised to an 8-0 win. Vasquez played at No. 1 doubles alongside Danielle Smith and won her opening match, 8-0.

Roosevelt was staked to a 2-1 lead as doubles concluded  and the Lakers closed out the match by taking five of the six singles contests.

Balan (No. 1), Vasquez (No. 2) and Nolley (No. 3) won the top three singles matches in straight sets. Liz Bartz notched her first victory with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 singles, while rookie Christina Strong also collected her first win with a super-tiebreaker triumph in her No. 6 singles contest.

The Lakers will be back in action next weekend when they take to the court in individual singles and doubles flights at the Western Illinois Invitational.
