Chicago, Ill. – Cardinal Stritch staved off three sets points as the Roosevelt volleyball team vied to level its CCAC North Division match with the visiting Wolves on Thursday night, eventually coming all the way back to take the second set which carried the visitors to a 25-20, 28-26, 25-20 victory over the Lakers at the UIC Physical Education Building.

After Cardinal Stritch (19-6, 10-2) pulled away late in the opening set to prevail, 25-20, Roosevelt (15-10, 7-6) owned a 24-21 lead in the second set and seemed poised to tie up contest. The Wolves had other ideas, rattling off four straight points to put themselves back in front of a set they would eventually win, 28-26. That setback seemed to take the wind out of the Lakers' sails as Cardinal Stritch closed out the match by taking the third set, 25-20.

Sophomore Vanessa Owusu tallied a team-best 15 kills for Roosevelt, while freshman Aleesha Cleaver tabbed her first double-double with 31 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Tori Schrementi and sophomore Valerie Cutrone added nine kills apiece for the Lakers.

Monique Morris paced Cardinal Stritch with 14 kills and 17 digs.

Roosevelt will return to action on Saturday when they host the Roosevelt Tri-Match at the UIC Physical Education Building. The Lakers take on IU Northwest at 12:00 p.m. and St. Francis (Ind.) at 4:00 p.m.
