Chicago, Ill. - The Roosevelt volleyball dropped a heart-breaking, five-set affair against St. Francis (IN), 25-27, 25-16, 22-25, 30-28, 15-9 on Saturday evening to finish the RU Tri-Match with a 1-1 record. The Lakers opened the day by sweeping IU Northwest in straight sets, 25-14, 25-10, 25-14 at the UIC Physical Education Building.

Roosevelt now sits at 16-11 on the season following the tri-match split. The Lakers will get back in to league play on Tuesday when they play host to Judson in a pivotal CCAC North Division contest at 7:00 p.m.

In the finale of the RU Tri-Match, the Lakers held a two sets to one lead, before the Cougars (10-16) outlasted Roosevelt in a back-and-forth fourth set, 30-28, to send the contest into a deciding fifth set. St. Francis (Ill.) took control of the fifth set right away, jumping out to a 6-1 lead on a service run Rachel Weaver that carried the visitors to victory, 15-9.

Sophomore Valerie Cutrone was one of three Lakers to tally double figures in kills with a team-high 17. Sophomore Vanessa Owusu added 16, while freshman Katherine Daley tabbed a career-high 12 kills.

Freshman setter Aleesha Cleaver recorded her second double-double of the year for Roosevelt with 49 assists and 12 digs. Rookies Emma Jarvis and Talia Kaczmarek paced the Lakers with 18 digs apiece.

Morgan Hansen recorded a match-high 22 kills to pace the Cougars.

In the opener Roosevelt cruised to a three-set victory over IU Northwest. Owusu led the way with 10 kills, while Cleaver recorded 18 assists, four aces, six digs and two kills. Daley also added six kills for the Lakers in the win.
