Winnecone, Wis. – Senior Alex Agafonov ran an 8K personal-best 26:34.76 to lead the Roosevelt men's cross country team to a 28th place finish on Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Club.
The time also set a school record, with Agafonov recording the new standard despite a steady rain and sloppy course conditions. He placed 109th in the field of 500 runners. Agafonov's standing helped the Lakers gain their 28th place team finish in the 38-team field.
Freshman Martin Espino ran a strong race for Roosevelt as the team's second finisher, crossing the line in 27:17.81. Senior Aaron King was not far behind at 27:42.06. Freshman Jon Hernandez (28:48.03), sophomore GianCarlo Vassallo (29:04.42) and rookie Thomas Woods (29:58.01) rounded out the field for the Lakers.
The Lakers will be back in action next Saturday in their final tune-up prior to the CCAC Championships when they race at the NAIA Great Lakes Invite in Grand Rapids, Mich.
