Roosevelt University Athletic Director Mike Cassidy announced on September 9, 2011 the hiring of Shaun Kohn as the first-ever head coach of the Lakers women's soccer program.

"Shaun brings to Roosevelt a pedigree as a top-flight educator, recruiter and on-field tactician," said Cassidy. "I know he will build a program that is centered on student-athlete success, both on and off the playing field. I am excited to begin working with him on turning his visions for this team into a reality."

Kohn is no stranger to starting a soccer program, accomplishing the feat during the first of two heading coaching stints at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon. In 1995, Kohn developed the men's soccer program at Southwestern Oregon and a year later put together the school's first-ever women's soccer team.

"There are a variety of unique challenges that are part of the process of starting and building a soccer program," Kohn said. "Introducing the program and promoting the program throughout the region are important.

"The most important part of building the women's soccer program here at Roosevelt will be finding student-athletes who want to be a part of a soccer program and a team that emphasizes academics, along with excellence on the field," Kohn continued. "As a coach I emphasize personal responsibility on and off the field. Excelling on the field is important, though the student-athletes in this women's soccer program will be students first."

Kohn left Coos Bay in 1997, but returned in 2003 to take over the women's soccer program. Over the next five seasons Southwestern Oregon tallied 50 wins, including the first playoff victory in school history in 2005, and a 16-2-5 ledger in 2006. The 2006 season was the most successful in school history as Southwestern captured the South Region Championship and advanced to the NWAACC Final Four.

In between his time at Southwest Oregon, Kohn spent a year as assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas, and a year as a head coach for the McKenzie United Soccer Academy in Eugene, Oregon. His last coaching experience was in 2009 at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, where he spent one season as head coach for the women's soccer team and women's recruiting coordinator for the athletic department.

Most recently, Kohn has been at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, serving as a graduate teaching assistant while pursuing his Master of Science degree in Kinesiology.

Kohn earned his Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University in 2011. Kohn also holds a Master of Science degree in Communications from the University of Oregon (2000), and a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Mankato State University (1992).
